Movie Review

“Perception is real, but the truth is not,” said the former first lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos. This perception emerged when the folk realized the wealthy lifestyle of Marco’s family and how they handled the political by impulsive decisions. An example of that was a thousand of exclusive brand shoes and the expensive paintings by Miguel Angelo purchased by Marco's family. In addition, the police crimes daily took place on the streets against the opposition. Despite the film documentary “The Kingmaker” addresses an overview of the Philippines’ political history, it pushes the audience to choose a side from political parties as opposition or follower.
“The Kingmaker”, a documentary movie in which director Lauren Greenfield displays political issues related to the presidential period of Marco in the Philippines. Due to a successful director career in other productions, Greenfield was able to interview Marcos’ wife and access into the core’s family, thus Imelda Marcos became the protagonist in this documentary. On other hand, Corazon Aquino represented the voice of the opposition who restored the democratic rule in Philippines. This documentary took place different cites of Philippines in which was made several interviews to the folk and political activists.
The forceful character of Imelda and her conviction to restore the honor of her family made her return to the Philippines from exile. Through several interviews, the former first lady rewrite her family’s history of corruption pointing that her family was the truth victims. Currently she replaced the past and made an address in which she outlines the immense love that a mother has for her nation; however, her desires for change the people’s perception about her family is due to the fact she helps her son to reach political position. The folk and the opposition bring back to remain the crimes, injuries and the wealthy lifestyle of Marcos’s family through two decades of dictatorship which that leads a decadence for the country.
Every day, political and newspapers make some critical comments against other politic parties, in which non-official’s news are common at this time. As the result, the people opinion easily could be influenced and is easy to manipulate theirs general thinking. After the movie, I was totally agreed with the opposition; however, I interviewed three coworkers from Philippines, they almost said me the same, “Marcos was a good president, I voted for her, He built schools, hospital and bring prosperity to the country, the story about the shoes is real, but the woman love shoes and love shopping”. That short interview leads me to do not recommend this movie for anybody who do not do their own research about political or have a strong knowledge in political. The most important of that movie is complement your perception about that Philippine’s history. Unfortunately, this movie does not fit for me and it is a 3-star movie due to the director interviewed Imelda Marcos, but I am plenty sure that is a 5-star movie to the correct audients.
